Eligibility Enrollment

Who Can Apply for Temporary Insurance?

Because short-term health insurance is a private product, it uses a process called Medical Underwriting to determine eligibility. While this sounds complex, the 2026 process at CoverPlus Health is entirely digital and takes less than 10 minutes.

General Eligibility Requirements:

  1. Age: You must be at least 19 and no older than 64.
  2. Residency: You must be a legal resident of Florida (or the state where you are applying).
  3. Health Status: You must be able to answer “No” to the core “Knock-Out” health questions.

The Underwriting Questions: What to Expect

When you start your application, you will be asked about your medical history over the last 2 to 5 years. Typical questions include:

  • “Are you currently pregnant or undergoing an infertility treatment?”
  • “In the last 5 years, have you been treated for or diagnosed with Cancer, Heart Disease, or HIV?”
  • “Are you currently hospitalized or awaiting a scheduled surgery?”

If you can answer “No” to these, your chances of instant approval are nearly 100%.

Why Underwriting Exists

It is a common misconception that underwriting is “unfair.” In the short-term market, underwriting is what makes the plans affordable. By excluding high-cost, chronic conditions, the insurance company reduces its risk, allowing them to pass those savings directly to you in the form of lower monthly premiums.

The “Instant Approval” Advantage

One of the most frustrating parts of the ACA Marketplace is the “Waiting Game.” You often have to wait until the 1st of the following month for coverage to start.

With the CoverPlus Health Enrollment Portal, short-term plans offer Real-Time Adjudication. This means:

  • Step 1: You enter your info.
  • Step 2: You answer the health questions.
  • Step 3: You pay your first premium.
  • Step 4: You receive your digital ID card immediately.

Frequently Asked Questions (Underwriting)

What if I lie on the application?

This is known as “Material Misrepresentation.” If you fail to disclose a heart condition and then have a heart attack, the insurance company has the right to “rescind” (cancel) the policy and refuse to pay the claim. Always be 100% honest.

Do I need a physical exam?

No. Short-term underwriting is “Simplified,” meaning it relies solely on your answers and a quick check of your prescription drug history (Mib) database. No needles, no blood draws.
